Lufthansa is the largest airline in Europe, it is based in Germany, and its main office is located in Cologne. The primary traffic hub of the Lufthansa airlines lies at Frankfurt Airport, where there is also the main operation base of the airlines; Lufthansa Aviation Center (LAC). The secondary hub of Lufthansa is Munich airport. Lufthansa is one of the five founding members of the world's largest airline alliance; Star Alliance. Lufthansa services 18 domestic destinations and 197 international destinations in 78 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe. It is a member of a group of 4 airlines companies, such as Austrian Airlines, Germanwings, Lufthansa Technik, and Swiss International Air Lines. Together the five companies use more than 615 aircraft, in 2014, they carried more than 106 million passengers. Lufthansa alone has 280 aircraft. The name Lufthansa comes from the German word (Luft) which means (air), and the Latin word (Hansa) which means (league).
